About the Symptom

Hypersensitivity is the abnormal reaction of the immune system that occurs in response to exposure to an otherwise harmless substances. Hypersensitivity in the oral cavity can be seen as redness or whiteness of the mucosa; swelling of the lips, tongue and cheeks; ulcers and blisters; discomfort to chewing and to hot and cold food and drinks.

Generally, Mouth sensitivity can be related to:

  • Candidiasis (Oral, Hands and Feet)

    Normal human skin contains bacteria and fungi. Candidiasis occurs when the fungus overgrows and invades the skin. Risk factors include warm moist environments and a weakened immune system.

  • Viral Enanthem

    A viral mucosal rash is a skin rash that occurs in association with viral infections, often serving as a diagnostic clue.

  • Stomatitis

    Inflammation of the mouth surface causes ulcers. Various factors can cause this, such as vitamin deficiencies, medications, and autoimmunity (the body's immune system attacking itself). Often, no clear cause is found, and the ulcers heal on their own.
