About the Symptom
It is a condition in which the skin and whites of the eyes turn yellow because of high levels of bilirubin, a yellowish pigment, circulating in the blood. Bilirubin is a waste product created during the breakdown of old red blood cells.

Seek professional care if you experience any of the following symptoms

Possible Causes
Generally, Jaundice can be related to:
Liver damage caused by excessive alcohol consumption.
A condition in which a baby is born with abnormally narrow or even absent bile ducts in the liver. It can cause rapid liver failure, so prompt medical attention is needed. The exact cause is unclear, but genetics and exposure to certain toxins may play a role.
Cancer of the bile ducts is also known as "cholangiocarcinoma." It is a cancer that arises in the bile ducts inside the liver or in the ducts that connect the liver to the gall bladder and intestines. Risk factors include genetic conditions, a condition called primary sclerosing cholangitis, chronic liver disease, infection with liver worms (flukes), smoking, diabetes, and age >50. Patients often come to their physicians with abdominal pain, jaundice (yellow skin and eyeballs), itchiness, and weight loss.
Sickle Cell Disease
Congenital Biliary Dilatation
Related serious diseases
Sometimes, Jaundice may be related to these serious diseases:
Malaria is caused by a plasmodium parasite, transmitted through infected mosquito bites. The disease's severity depends on the plasmodium species.
