About the Symptom

Irregular pulse indicates that the heart is out of its usual rhythm. It may feel like the heart skipped a beat, added a beat, or is "fluttering."

Generally, Irregular heartbeat can be related to:

  • Atrial Fibrillation (AF)

    Atrial fibrillation is a heart condition causing an irregular and often abnormally fast heart rate, which can result in blood clots in the heart. It increases the risk of stroke, heart failure, and other heart-related complications. Common causes include heart valve diseases and heart failure.

  • Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension

    Pulmonary arterial hypertension is high blood pressure in the small blood vessels of the lungs. It can be caused by heart disease, connective tissue disease, blood vessel disease, high blood pressure, liver disease, blood clots in the blood vessels to the lungs, and lung diseases. It can affect anyone but is more common in women.

  • Long QT Syndrome
